The Procession

At 12.30pm the Royal Train arrived at Victoria Station for the first part of the royal couple's day in Manchester. From the station they went to the Town Hall in Albert Square for lunch, before going on in the afternoon to open the new Number 9 Dock.

From the moment they started towards the Town Hall crowds cheered them along the route. After lunch they duly set off from the Town Hall heading for the new dock. Their route took them down Oxford Road to the junction with Cavendish Street and then onwards down Stretford Road to the boundary between Hulme and Stretford.
